Production area
It is the limited area that faces south-west along the last part of the left bank of the Tronto River. It is a series of hills, from east to west, from the Adriatic Sea as far as Ascoli Piceno. The Via Salaria, on the southern part, and the Tesino River, on the northern one, mark the boundary of this area. Its production is of 15,684 hectolitres.
Grapevine
It is made up of Sangiovese (30-50%) and Montepulciano grapes (50-70%). Other authorized red vines are exploited, jointly or individually, up to the 15%.
Organoliptic characteristics
Appearance its colour is a not very deep ruby red. With ageing, it tends to garnet red. Alcoholic content Min 12°.
Optimum age
Rosso Piceno Superiore comes onto the market one year after the vinification. Its quality improves when aged into oak barrels.
