MARCHE WINES AWARDS

One of the most dynamic of Italy's wine regions, the Marche has extremely old wine traditions.
 

In Le Marche there are seven "vitigni autoctoni" or indigenous grape varieties: Lacrima (red), Vernaccia Nera (red), Pecorino (white), Passerina (white), Verdicchio (white), Maceratino (white), Biancame (white). These, sometimes ancient, grape varieties are important to maintain the genetic variety of the vineyards and the character of the local wines.

Wines from Le Marche have not attained yet the international popularity of other wines but they are not to be underestimated. The production in these last years has reached an international level of excellence and the slow pace of this region gives to serious wine tasting a pleasurable dimension.

Touring Club

The best known white wine is the dry, delicate and very pale Verdicchio from the Jesi and Matelica districts.

The Offida Pecorino grape is gaining popularity in Marche and many producers are making stellar white wines with this trendy varietal.

Red wines are mostly drunk young, like the lively, fruity Lacrima di Morro D’Alba, or the Rosso Conero Docg and Rosso Piceno to make firm, tannic and easily recognizable wines.
